Franz Bishoff is most famous for his work as a successful china decorator and was the founder of the Bischoff School of Ceramic Art in Detroit and New York. He and his family moved to Los Angeles from Michigan in 1906, when he began to earn income as a painter of impressionistic California landscapes.
