Departing from the more matter-of-fact advertising of train timetables and maps of the region, Korwan turns to an allegorical approach in which the "Queen of the North Sea" is depicted emerging from the waves. Korwan was a landscape painter, a student of the Düsseldorf school, who lived much of his life on Sylt, from whose vistas he drew the inspiration for many of his paintings. DFP-III 1882.
