FRANZ PAUL GLASS (1886-1967) "DIE SECHS." 1914.
49x36 inches. Shuh & Co., Munich.
Condition B+: creases in margins and along vertical and horizontal folds. Paper.
Glass, who studied at the Decorative Arts Museum in his native Munich, opened up his own studio in 1910, and shortly thereafter joined up with five other Munich-based graphic designers (Fritz Huebner, Carl Moos, Walenty Zietara, Emil Preetorius, and Maz Schwarzer). "Die Sechs" were a group of talented poster designers who all worked for the same printer, and hoped that by joining together they could compete with Ludwig Hohlwein for Munich clients. This poster promoting the group is designed in Glass's favored, light Art Deco style, and is made particularly eye-catching by the bright red background. Munchen pl. 17, cat. 380.
