One of the first plays to deal with the AIDS epedmic's catastrophic affect on the gay community of New York, "As Is" opened on Broadway in May of 1985 after a brief run at the Circle Theatre (almost two months before Larry Kramer's "The Normal Heart.") The play was nominated for a Tony and won both an Obie and a Drama Desk Award for outstanding new play. The production ran for over 250 performances. The image on the poster appears to be an adaptation of an Andy Warhol self portrait used by Leo Castelli on an exhibition inviation in 1966.
