Taylor was a prolific artist who worked extensively for the British Railway companies, London Transport and the Empire Marketing Board. In all, he designed over 100 posters. His versatile style was often very detailed and largely focused on near-photographic rendering of architecture. This is the most stylized image in his extensive oeuvre and one of the very few (if not the only) poster he designed for an ocean liner company. The Avon was launched in 1907. Founded in 1839, the RMSP (Royal Mail Steam Packet) became the largest shipping group in the world in 1927 when they purchased the White Star Line. It was later dissolved on account of financial improprieties in 1931, and reestablished as the Royal Mail Line in 1932. Posters & Their Designers, p. 101.
