FRED TAYLOR (1875-1963) EDINBURGH. Circa 1930.
39 3/4x25 1/4 inches, 101x64 cm. Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, Ltd., London.
Condition B+: repaired tears, replaced losses and restoration in margins; minor creases and abrasions in margins and image.
Taylor was a prolific artist who worked extensively for the British Railway companies, London Transport and the Empire Marketing Board. In all, he designed over 100 posters. His versatile style was often very detailed and largely focused on near-photographic rendering of architecture. Here, he shows Edinburgh's castle seen over the rooftops over the city, including the dome of the Museum of the Mound and the spires of New College.
