FRED TAYLOR (1875-1963) MIDDELBURG HOLLAND. Circa 1928.
39 5/8x49 5/8 inches. The Dangerfield Printing Co., London.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears in margins; creases in margins and image.
A market scene populated by women in their ethnic finery in the shadow of the impressive gothic Town Hall in Middelburg. "Some of the finest advertising was produced by the LNER . . . in promoting their routes to the Continent. The LNER operated from several ports . . . but its main passenger service was from Harwich to the Hook of Holland, Flushing and Zeebrugge" (Railway p. 23). Taylor designed more than 60 posters between 1908 and the 1940s. His style, often very detailed, is here more representative (in the style of Tom Purvis) using broad, flat areas of color to create implied details.
