A bird's-eye view of the river Thames and the surrounding city of London. The Pool of London is the name given to the stretch of the Thames between Tower Bridge and London Bridge. From 33 B. C., when the Romans settled there, until the beginning of the 20th century, the area was a center of trade. This changed with the development of trains, which could carry more cargo and were faster than ships. Today, the Pool of London is famous for its tourist attractions, including the Tower of London and St. Katherine Docks.
