FREDERICK C. HERRICK (1887-1970) HEARING / THE RICHES OF LONDON. 1927. 39 1/2x25 inches, 100x63 1/2 cm. The Baynard Press, London. Condition B+: repaired tears, creases and restoration in margins and image. Almost all of Herrick's posters are marked by an elegant Art Deco stylization, and indeed he was the only British artist to participate in the famed 1925 Parisian Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. Not only a poster designer, he was also in charge of the Baynard Press in London. "This Poster was one of a series illustrating the senses, in which sensual appreciation required the use of a reconstructed Underground symbol" (Underground p. 53). Others in the series included "Smelling," "Touching," "Tasting," and "Seeing."
