"In the 1930s, Carpenter became best known as a graphic designer, particularly among readers of Fortune magazine, for which he designed several covers" (https://www.metmuseum.org/). He also published A Sketch Book of New York, in 1927. This same image by Carpenter was used to advertise the "Whitman Cup - Wimbledon" in the same year, from June 12 &13th. LTM 1983.4.9865 (var).
