Oval oil on canvas stretched over mahogany board, 597x395 mm; 23 3/4x15 1/2 inches, of a pondering Keats sitting on a log beneath a tree, dreaming of a battle scene, painted in the background among clouds, a gold banner with black text and red initials bearing the Keats quote from the second stanza of To My Brother George: "That when a Poet is in such a trance. In air he sees white coursers pau, and prance, Bestridden of gay knights in gay apparel Who at each other tilt in playful quarrel." Signed and dated 1901, lower margin, oval metal frame with beaded border, rubbed, with some decorative pieces missing. Circa 1901.
