Additional Details

with--Untitled (Mamaloose Point Monument, Idaho). Silver print, 7x10 inches (17.8x25.4 cm.), with Friedlander's signature and edition notations, 137/150, in ink, on recto; housed in a mat on rear pastedown. 1974; printed 1976.

As an emerging photographer in the 1970s, Friedlander's audience for his fine art photographic prints was limited. Photography, a burgeoning new field, had yet to attract widespread appreciation in the art market. Thus, for Friedlander, the photo book became his primary medium. Although this publication was published with the esteemed Eakins Press, he founded Haywire Press and self-published several of his own books.

This rare limited edition monograph is sumptuously bound in a vibrant red cover and leather backstrip. And, the deluxe edition also features a signed photograph, which is housed in the rear pastedown of the book.
