First edition, two octavo volumes bound in uniform contemporary sheep with the arms of Guillaume Gabriel Pavée de Vendeuvre (1779-1870) tooled in gilt on all four boards (damage to headcap and top gutter corner of first volume (dropped), 7 3/4 x 4 3/4 in. (2)

Falconet was a physican for the French court and inveterate book collector. In these auction catalogs, more than 19,000 books are listed. Those in brackets (approximately 11,000 titles) were reserved for the Bibliothèque du Roi (today's Bibliothèque Nationale). Falconet's collection had numerous natural history listings, and books about science and medicine.
