The iconic character, Moll Cut-Purse, was first introduced in this edition. Scholars have attributed the source of the story to the novel of the Curious Impertinent found in Don Quixote. Field was a member of Shakespeare's acting company. Amends for Ladies contains references to the Fortune Theatre and Shakespeare's Falstaff. "Did you never see the Play where the fat Knight hight Old-castle did tell you truley what this honor was?" (Quoted from the present work, G1 recto.)
