Floriana, Italian military architect and engineer, was involved in multiple fortification projects in response to fears of an invasion of southern Europe from North Africa. He also did work in Vienna, Hungary, and Valletta, the capital of Malta. On the island republic, he designed the eponymous Floriana Lines, as a defense that eventually grew into a fortified town also named after its designer.
