Fuller, Margaret (1810-1850)
Two Cartes-de-visite from the Plumbe Daguerreotype Session.

Ithaca, NY: Purdy & Frear, circa 1860.

Two albumen photographs on period card mounts: the first vignetted, showing a variant pose of John Plumbe's 1846 daguerreotype original with unmarked back; the second with the image taking up the full frame, replicating the most famous Plumbe original, with the Ithaca studio's brand on the verso; both very nicely preserved, each 4 1/4 x 2 1/2 in. (2)

Plumbe's images of Fuller are the only photographs we have of her. The two images in the current lot were clearly taken at the same session. Fuller's book, pose, shawl, and carefully arranged hair are all identical. However, one can see slight variations in the position of her light-colored shawl, hand, and the angle of her head.
