That Alphonse Mucha's art had an overwhelming effect on the styles of contemporary artists is undeniable. His posters for the Salon des Cent and Cycles Perfecta, however, unintentionally lent themselves to being used by other artists commissioned to design posters selling hair lotion. Mucha's extraordinary, idealized visions of beautiful women with exaggerated flowing hair were co-opted by artists around Europe. These artists parlayed off Mucha's popularity by making their images look like his.
