G. M. SOLCQUANDAR AJANTA FRESCOES / SEE INDIA. 1934.
391/2x25 inches. Bolton Fine Art, Bombay.
Condition A-: repaired tears in margins.
Discovered in 1817, the frescoes of the Ajanta caves were created between the second century B.C. and the seventh century A.D. Within a complex of 29 caves, the frescoes are a picture book to teach novices of the various lives and incarnations of Buddha. Religious in nature and artistically complex, the paintings cover the walls and ceilings of chapels, temples and monasteries carved into the side of a ravine. A rare and unusual image.
