Autograph Note Signed, "Mr. Gallatin," in the third person within the text, twice, as U.S. Minister to France, to Charles Stewart, returning a map of America, stating that part of the [U.S.-Canada] border was fixed by the Convention of October [20, 1818], and that the most western part has not yet been agreed upon. 1 page, 4to; some loss to lower right corner repaired with cello tape, folds. "Mr. Gallatin has the honor to return to Sir Charles Stewart the Map of America. The straight line, along the 49th degree of N. Latitude, from the Lake of the Woods to the top of the Stony Mountains, is that which was fixed by the Convention of October last. The boundary from those Mountains to the Pacific Ocean has not yet been determined by any mutual agreement.
