a very scarce broadside inviting the people of new jersey to hear the black leader speak Garvey had specifically come to New Jersey to address her Negro citizens. Just three weeks earlier, thousands of Klan members had descended on the nearby community of Hamilton, and this presented an ideal opportunity to show black unity and strength. At this time, Garvey was actually on parole and doing his best to put the issue of the Black Star Line behind him, and retain his support in the black community.
