of exceeding rarity, only one other, almost identical to this has been located at the national library in jamaica.This image appears as the frontispiece to Volume one of Robert A. Hill's definitive work, the Marcus Garvey and Universal Negro Improvement Papers (University of California Press, 1983). We have tentatively dated the portrait at circa 1917. Garvey is depicted in this image as a young man; later images show him as a heavier person with a considerably broader face.
