Gatling (1818-1903) invented the first practical machine gun in 1862 which could fire 350 rounds per minute, in 1870 Gatling supervised the manufacturing of his gun at the Colt Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company where he made several improvements and eventually sold his patent to Colt.<
