Belwe was a German type designer, graphic artist and teacher, who co-founded a private press called Steglitzer Werkstatt. He is best known for his Belwe text family (1907) and for being the head of the typography department at the Leipzig Academy for Graphic Art. This poster predates his font designs, but clearly exhibits his passion for typographic experimentation.
