GEORG HÖSSEL (ATTRIBUTED TO)
The Holy Trinity<>

Pen and black ink and gray wash on cream laid paper, circa 1600. 313x202 mm; 12 3/8x8 inches. Ex-collection unknown collector, red ink stamp with the letter G in a square verso (not in Lugt).

Representations of the Holy Trinity, as it is shown here, in which the 3 personae hardly differ in age and appearance, have been in existence since the 9th century.

The attribution of the current work to this little known follower and contemporary of Friedrich Sustris (circa 1540-1599), both of whom were active in Munich , was suggested by the late Dr. Heinrich Geissler.
