GEORG MAYER-MARTON (1897-1960) HAGENBUND. 1929.
49 1/4x37 3/8 inches. J. Weiner, Viden.
Condition B+: restored loss in bottom left corner; repaired tears in margins.
Mayer-Marton was born in Hungary and studied art in Vienna and Munich. He lived in Vienna from 1919, working as a painter and an etcher, joining the Hagenbund in 1924. The Hagenbund, officially known as the Kunstelerbund Hagen, was the third most important Austrian art group after the Secession and the Kunstlerhaus. Among their members were such giants as Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. The group, named after Mr. Hagen who ran the inn where they frequently met, was dissolved by the Nazi party in 1938. This poster is for an exhibition of the group's work in Prague and shows a half model / half statue against a geometric background of blank, stretched canvases.
