GEORG RUETER (1877-1965) BIJBEL. 1937.
35x23 1/2 inches, 89x59 1/2 cm. Senefelder.
Condition B+: repaired tear through right margin; tears at edges; archival tape on verso. Paper.
The course of Rueter's artistic life followed a classic path. He studied at the Rijks School and then the Rijks artistic Academy and went on to become a painter, graphic designer and stained glass artist. Later in life he returned to the Rijks Academy as a teacher. Perhaps his work with the church led to this commission, which he executed in a manner reminiscent of the Dutch Art Nouveau. Promoting an exhibition held on the 300th anniversary of the Dutch translation of the bible, it is a classic, symmetric image surrounding a fountain bearing the inscription, "fountain of all things that are dead and gone."
