According to Mason, "Bellows was commissioned by Century magazine early in 1922 to do sixteen drawings illustrating the novel The Wind Bloweth by the popular Irish author, Donn Byrne. It was the largest commission he had yet received." Bellows reworked most of these pen and ink illustrations into lithographs between 1923 and 1924. Mason 150.
