Additional Details

George Frederick Mason was born October 18, 1904, in Princeton, Mass. He worked as a political cartoonist for a newspaper; eventually he became associate curator of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. He was also an author and illustrator, self-illustrating all of his books, which were on natural history topics, especially animals. Critics felt that his illustrations were as informative as his text.
