GEORGE GROSZ
Franz Jung gewidmet.

Offset lithograph, 1917. 279x169 mm; 11x6 5/8 inches, full margins. Edition of 100. Signed in pencil, lower right. Published by Malik-Verlag, Berlin. From Ecce Homo.

Franz Jung (1888-1963) was a literary and political figure, founder of the Communist Workers Party of Germany and a significant voice of the German Dada movement, much admired by Grosz. The artist wrote, "In Berlin a different wind was blowing. The aesthetic side was preserved, but was increasingly pushed to one side by a brand of anarchist-nihilist politics, whose leading spakesman was Franz Jung. Jung was a Rimbaud-like figure, an intrepid adventurer type who shrank from nothing. He associated himself with us, and being the powerful type that he was, he immediately influenced the entire Dada movement." Dückers S I, 46.
