Hungarian-born Hamori left the country of his birth in 1949 and ultimately settled in Israel. It was there that he rose to prominence as a stamp designer, creating many of the young country's earliest stamps. In 1956 he moved to Australia and quickly found work with Qantas, for whom he designed publicity materials including booklets, menu covers, brochures and annual reports. Hamori also produced designs and logos for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Reserve Bank of Australia, Esso and other major corporations. In addition to a small number of posters for the Australian National Airline, Hamori also designed this scarce route map. The animals depicted on the map are all taken from existing Qantas posters designed by Harry Rogers: the koala (Australia), the bulldog (Britain), the tiger (Singapore), the moose (Canada), the sea turtle (Pacific Islands), the squirrel (America), the giraffe (South Africa), and the rooster (Japan). Curiously, there does not appear to be any known Qantas poster featuring a toucan, as seen here in South America. Rare. We could find no other copies at auction.
