Israel Ber Neumann (1887-1961) was born in Austria-Hungary and became a book and art dealer based in Berlin in 1911. Neumann was involved with the Berlin Secession and befriended several artists who also identified with the movement. Before emigrating to the United States in 1923, Neumann had already established gallery presence in Breman, Dusseldorf, and Munich. The New Art Circle Gallery opened as Neumann's book and print shop on 57th Street, New York in 1924 and operated until 1952. In October 1944, New Art Circle exhibited various contemporary artists, including an abstract work by George L. K. Morris, in "Some Aspects of Modern Art." An abstract by Morris is also listed in a 1945 exhibition "From Realism to Abstraction," curated by Neumann for the Cincinnati Modern Art Society.
