VA - JEL SCIENTIFIC BIRTH CONTROL. Circa 1940.

38x28 inches, 96½x71 cm.

Petty was an American pin-up artist, whose artistic influences included Leyendecker, Maxfield Parrish and Coles Phillips. The artist's eponymous "Petty Girls," made famous by Esquire magazine, were often painted on the noses of military war planes during WWII. Petty's stylish airbrushed figures feature in many commercial ads, for companies such as Jansen, Old Gold Cigarettes, TWA and Atlas Beer.
