Edwards, who had studied art in Paris and Belgium, brought the European sensibility towards Art Nouveau back with him to America where he became an accomplished book illustrator and watercolorist. Most of the approximately 20 posters he designed were for the Century publishing company. He is also credited with designing the poster for the 18th annual exhibition of the American Water Color Society in 1895 (Kiehl p. 186).
