GEORGES BASTIA ORANE DEMAZIS. 1931.
63x463/4 inches. H. Chachoin, Paris.
Condition B+: restored losses, repaired tears and creases in margins; vertical and horizontal folds.
In the early 1930s, Orane Demazis became a major French movie star. She was born in Oran, Algeria around 1905 (eventually taking the name of her home town as part of her stage name), and began studying theater at the Atelier Dullin in 1928. She rose to fame after becoming the companion of, Marcel Pagnol, the famous author from Marseilles. She starred in three of his most famous movies: Fanny (1931), Marius (1932), and César. While nothing is known about Bastia himself, this unrecorded poster-portrait (the image is an exceptional likeness of the actress), is an important document because it captures the actress before she became a household name.
