GEORGES BLOTT (DATES UNKNOWN)

AU GRAND BON MARCHÉ. Circa 1898.

76x50 inches, 193x50 cm. Emile Pécaud, Paris.
Condition B: small losses, flaking and repaired tears in margins; repaired tears, creases and abrasions along vertical and horizontal folds; colors attenuated; mounted on non-archival paper, to linen.

Liberally borrowing its name from the famed, well-established Parisian department store Bon Marché, the Grand Bon Marché in Orléans had no connection to its nearly eponymous cousin in the capital city. Here, the exquisitely turned-out father and son duo are singularly ill-clad for a game of tennis, in spite of holding rackets as if ready to play.
