GEORGES BOTTINI
Au Bar<>.

Watercolor and encre de Chine<> on thin wove paper mounted on Japan paper, 1907. 328x402 mm; 13x15 7/8 inches. Signed and dated in ink, lower right.

During his short career, Bottini (1874-1907) was one of a few artists to bridge the gap from the Belle-Epoque style of Toulouse-Lautrec to the Blue Period work of Picasso. Most of his watercolors and paintings depict café and bar scenes in the Monmartre area of Paris, where he lived throughout his career. He died in an asylum from syphilis, which he had contracted in his teens.
