Loïe Fuller's serpentine dance was a revolutionary interplay of colored lights and swirling veils. The result was a transfixing combination of movement and color that inspired such artists as Rodin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cheret, Pal and Orazi to attempt to capture the moving dancer in a still image. For her reappearance at the Folies Bergere Meunier does an excellent job in suggesting the fusion between light and shadows, and also intimates the fiery appearance of the dancer's veils. Maitres 1900 p. 43.
