A black cat is watching his mistress, an orange-haired young lady in a green dress, who is so absorbed in smoking her cigarette that she doesn't realize she is slipping out of one of her red shoes; against a red, orange and blue background. "Georges Meunier was one of the painters of talent and charm . . . who are the smiling illustrators of their time. . . a pupil of Cheret . . . his philosophy of the poster was the same 'toujours les femmes et les rires<>' "(Abdy p. 63). No one has ever properly explained why all copies of this poster bear the 1889 imprint. Maitres pl. 167, DFP-2 579, Abdy p. 62.
