50 1/2x36 1/2 inches. Minot, Paris.

Georges Redon like his other artist friends with whom he shard a stylistic similarity, Abel Truchet and Maurice Neumont, did a lot of book illustrations, lithographs and posters. Redon's work was mainly for different music halls. His style is not graphic but rather painterly in that he uses a warm palette to depict sensuous music hall performers in a lithographic style that basically lets you see his brush strokes. The play La Tournée des Grands Ducs<>, takes its name from the big tour of Parisian night life, as scandalously enjoyed by the big-spending, flamboyant Russian Grand Dukes, who used to take the city by storm. Here Redon depicts a classic turn-of-the-century cliché; the backstage fantasy of a rich, decadent, old bourgeois seducing a very willing ballerina. Folies-Bergere 51.
