Brockhurst (1890-1978), an English painter and etcher, ushered in the tail end of the turn of the century vogue for fashionable, idealized, portraits of society's most alluring personalities. His several hundred etchings, mostly portraits and figure studies made during the 1910s and 1920s, share a precision with Whistler's early etched work from the 1850s.

Brockhurst's love affair with his teenage model Dorette, who posed nude for his most famous etching Adolescence in 1932, erupted in scandal in 1933, forcing him to leave England and pursue his career as a portraitist in New York. Fletcher 58.
