GERMAN SCHOOL, 16TH-CENTURY
The Great Jewish Sow.

Woodcut. 273x423 mm; 10 3/4x16 3/4 inches, small margins. Indistinct coat-of-arms watermark. A superb impression of this extremely scarce, anti-Semetic print.

Though similar in style to Wolfgang Meissner's Jewish Sow, woodcut, 1596, in the Reprobation of Rabbinacal and Judaic Apostasy, Confusion and Ignorance in Wittenberg (Geisberg 735), the current work is more broadly cut and presents additional symbolic motifs, indicating an earlier date. We have not found another impression at auction in the past 20 years.
