Additional Details

Gerry later became Governor of Massachusetts and then Vice President. During a social visit to New York, Gerry wrote this letter to Jenks, a recent Harvard graduate then working as a private tutor in Gerry's large Cambridge household. He extends thanks for the fine instruction being given to his children, and asks Jenks to pass on specific instructions to other household staff. In a postscript, he offers condolences on the death of Jenks's father.
