Folio, 458x295 mm, early 19th-century 1/2 calf, worn, could use rebinding; 2-inch marginal chip and creasing to title, few short clean marginal tears throughout, repairs to larger tears on plates 6, 66, 87, 106 (just extending into image), and 114, verso of last plate with paper remnants along edges, plates quite clean but for scattered mostly marginal foxing, heaviest to last few plates. "These designs . . . had a great influence in the United States as well as in England for about one hundred years. A copy was in the library of Thomas Jefferson"--Fowler 138 (1728 first edition). Gibbs's book became a standard pattern book and one of the most widely used architectural volumes of the eighteenth century.
