GIFFORD BEAL (1879-1956)

Three etchings with drypoint.
Hauling Nets * Fishermen on the Rocks * The Sword Fisherman. Each on cream laid paper. Each 229x298 mm; 9x11¾ inches, full margins. Each signed and inscribed "100 imp" in pencil, lower margin. Each circa 1930.

Commisioned by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts (TSFA), Gifford Beal completed three murals. In 1938 he finished his first project for a post office in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In 1941 he created a mural for the Udal Department of the Interior, located in Washinton, DC. That same year Crestline Ohio received a newly constructed post office as a New Deal project, for which Gifford Beal contributed a mural.
