Gilbert Lewis was a figurative painter working primarily in watercolor and gouache pigments. He completed the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Certificate Program in 1967. Upon being awarded the William Emlen Cresson Memorial Travel Scholarship, Lewis left for Italy where he was inspired by the paintings of Renaissance masters. In 1974 he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Philadelphia College of Art, followed by a master's degree in Creative Arts in Therapy from Hahnemann University, Philadelphia in 1978.Lewis taught in the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts certificate program as well as the continuing education classes.
