Additional Details

Strangers to Freedom "follows the story of Gabrielle de Frétat, a young girl who was living in attendance of the royal family, and later left the Court to go as companion to the invalid Mme de Méricourt. Three years later the Revolution flared up, most of the de Méricourt family went across the frontier into Switzerland, and Gabrielle found herself virtually a prisoner in the large old-fashioned house in Paris, companioned only by the governess." - Taken from the book jacket.
