The caption reads "Jack Kerouac, railroad brakeman's rule-book in pocket, pillows airing on fire-escape, south view over backyard clotheslines three flights up, my apartment 206 East 7th Street Lower East Side Manhattan, W.S. Burroughs in a residence editing Yage Letters & Queer, Gregory Corso also visited that season. Kerouac'd already completed On the Road, Visions of Cody, Doctor Sax, had begun Book of Dreams & Pie, was in midst of Subterraneans affair with 'Mardou Fox,' that book completed same year along with Maggie Cassady, Fall 1953."
