GIOVANNI BATTISTA FALDA
Le Fontane di Roma . . . Libro Primo.
Bound volume with 31 etchings and engraved title pages, circa 1690. 210x285 mm; 8 1/2x11 1/4 inches, narrow to small margins. Published by Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi, Rome. Ex-collection Dufour, Paris, with the bookplate on the front paste down. Very good impressions.
Falda (1643-1678) was born in northern Italy and sent to Rome at an early age to work in the studio of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He was commissioned by the Roman publisher de Rossi to make a series of prints representing the fountains of Rome, which after his untimely death at age 35 was expanded into a total of 4 parts with etchings by other printmakers (including views of fountains at Frascati, at outlying Roman villas and at the Villa d'Este in Tivoli). Bruni/Evans 436.
