Each 1757-70. Each approximately 150x115 mm; 6x4 1/2 inches, small margins. Each in the first state (of 2), before the number upper right. Brilliant, richly-inked impressions with very strong contrasts and no sign of wear, consistent with the earliest impressions of these subjects.
Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo (1727-1804) etched the series Raccolta di Teste after figures in original oil paintings and drawings by his father, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770), in two stages. The first series of 27 etchings was finished by 1757, while the second series of 33 portraits of philosophers was executed by Domenico after his father's death. The 60 etchings were published in two albums, each of which contained 30 plates and a title page.
