GIOVANNI PINTORI (1912-1999) OLIVETTI ELETTROSUMMA 22. 1956.
27x19 inches, 68 1/2x48 1/4 cm. Arti Grafiche M. & G. Pirovano.
Condition B+: repaired tears and light staining at edges; creases and abrasions in margins and image.
Directly after he finished school in Monza in 1936, Pintori was hired by Adriano Olivetti. He ended up staying with the company for 31 years, ultimately heading Olivetti's graphic design department from 1950 to 1967. Olivetti was revolutionary in the progressive way in which he handled his company's advertising, turning "his graphic arts campaign into a total social and commercial restructuring of his company." Pintori oversaw a prodigious output of advertisements, many of them his own designs but also many by such prominent artists as Lionni, Glaser, Folon and Savignac. This poster was used at a later date with a different Olivetti logo at the bottom.
